Notes from the Auction Rostrum

  • 16 November, 2017

It has been a very busy year and sadly this will be our last auction of 2017. The activity over the last 11 months has been constant and some of the prices achieved have proved to clients why it pays to take a property to auction. Obviously some lots generate more interest than others, depending of course on price and demand, but everything will attract offers and at auction you can be sure that the best price has been achieved.

Once again there is a mixed bag of opportunities to consider, starting with 10 acres of land with fishing rights, to two additional plots both in excess of an acre.

The four lots under £100,000 will interest the investor buyers and the six houses up to £250,000 are ideal for home or rental, subject to certain works.

Within the selection of higher priced properties you will find a ready to occupy modern four bedroom detached house in Fareham, a substantial Victorian detached residence with existing commercial usage, but having much potential for other considerations and finally a charming period cottage in Bosham (sitting tenants) with direct views over the harbour.

You can view the online catalogue here.  Please let us know if you would like to view any of these lots and we hope to see you at the auction on the 13th December at the Hilton Hotel.

Auction Star Performer

  • 25 September, 2017

In our August auction the star performer on the day was "The Firs" in the historic village of Hambledon. This delightful detached cottage was offered as the last lot in the sale and even though it had attracted over 60 viewings in the pre-auction marketing period, the level of interest had exceeded all expectations:

The audience of over 100 people sat tight in eager anticipation to await the outcome. With everyone reluctant to start, the bidding opened just below the guide price of £395,000 and with hands being raised from all corners of the room, the hammer finally fell at £490,500.

As one would expect the clients were very satisfied with the result and glad that they decided to sell by auction as it took the stress out of the whole situation.

Chris McKenzie stars in new Propertymark national TV advert

  • 7 September, 2017

Propertymark, the go-to consumer organisation which helps people buy, sell, rent and let their homes, today launches its first national television advertisement to highlight the importance of using an agent who is ‘Propertymark Protected’.

Members from across the organisation took part in the filming for the new TV advert, including Chris McKenzie of Pearsons Estate Agents based in Southsea. The advert will appear across popular channels such as More 4, Home, Good Food, Eden, Discovery, Sky Sports News and Sky Living reaching approximately 30million adult viewers. The first prime time opportunity to see the advert will be during Grand Designs and Outlander on More 4 this evening (Thursday 7 September).

Propertymark unites the know-how and experience of the five leading membership organisations* for services in lettings, sales and auctions to create a single voice which promotes professionalism and integrity among those working in the property industry. By holding its members accountable and empowering consumers with knowledge and advice, Propertymark protects consumers and their money during their property transactions.

Chris McKenzie from Pearsons comments: “The TV campaign has taken several months to develop and it was really exciting to be involved in the filming of the advert. By displaying the Propertymark logo in our agency window we’re letting consumers know they’re in safe hands and their money is protected.  The launch of this television advert will help to raise further awareness of the work Propertymark is doing to support consumers and we hope as a result, people will proactively look for the ‘Propertymark Protected’ logo when choosing an agent in the future.”

David Cox, ARLA Propertymark Chief Executive, and Mark Hayward, NAEA Propertymark Chief Executive, said: “At present, consumers don’t know where to go for property advice or can’t be sure if they are dealing with a professional. Propertymark is changing this by acting as a stamp of approval for consumers when they seek property expertise. With the help of our members, some of whom participated in the filming of the advert including Chris McKenzie, we’re encouraging consumers to look for the ‘Propertymark Protected’ logo. This means they’re dealing with a professional who has opted for regulation in an unregulated sector and will ensure their money is protected.”

Mayflower Park, turning water into land

  • 17 August, 2017

Part of the exciting Royal Pier development is the planned renovation of Mayflower Park. Today’s crumbling site will become a thriving place with a casino, 250-bed five-star hotel, gourmet market, about 730 apartments, 47,000sq m of office space and between 40 and 50 shops, restaurants, cafes and bars all ranged along the waterfront.

Some of the exciting new proposal would see the park extended through the reclamation of land from the sea to include a new ‘hub’ building which could provide space for cultural, arts and technology uses plus a 98 ft high monument to the iconic Spitfire aircraft.

One of the first new residents of the area could well be the internationally famous PSP Southampton Boat Show.  We’re proud and delighted to have a flagship office, providing all the key property services from sales and lettings to mortgage advice, right at the heart of this thriving city, which is building an exciting future on the firm foundations of its past.
