“After trying two other agents, we decided to give the new guys in town a go. Pearsons, Bishop’s Waltham managed to find us a buyer within a month, very pleased with the whole experience. ” Mr. & Mrs. S,
The Meon Valley is the area around the River Meon within the South Downs National Park. For much of its route the river takes the form of a chalky stream, starting just outside the village of East Meon, heading south across the South Downs and emerging into the Solent. The entire area is a patchwork of rural idylls, described in The Guardian’s 2015 ‘Let’s move to [the Meon Valley]’ column as “pretty little villages of half-timbered cottages and ancient, flint-fronted churches”. These include Droxford, Hambledon, Wickham, Swanmore and East and West Meon as well as the historic market town of Bishop’s Waltham, which is home to the local Pearsons branch along with many niche independent shops.
If you have tired of city life and want to escape to the country you need look no further than the Meon Valley because there is something for everyone here, especially those with an interest in outdoor pursuits. For example, two of the best golf courses in the South of England are on the doorstep; the 10-mile-long Meon Valley trail is an adventure in waiting for walkers and cyclists; freshwater trout are just waiting to be fished in the Meon Valley Springs, or for more cultural pursuits you could watch a play being performed in the grounds of the old Bishop’s Waltham Palace. Then after a bracing day in the fresh air you can head to one of the many delightful country pubs and sample the region’s famous Meon Cider, which is made from locally grown apples.
