Old Town’s Secret Medieval History

  • 3 October, 2014

Old Town is an attractive proposition for residents keen to live alongside or in some of the most historic buildings in Southampton.

Nestled away on French Street is the Medieval Merchant's House, a hidden gem now in the care of English Heritage. In a bygone age, this was a bustling centre of commerce as traders gathered to barter goods. Protected by nearby medieval stone walls built to defend Southampton against land and sea attacks, the Merchant’s House is just one of the historical treasures that make the Old Town such a joy to explore.

Within the top of Southampton Walls, and ideally situated for access to the city centre, is this charming two-bedroom cottage that contains many character features, as well as a courtyard garden.

Today, the Old Town still boasts over 90 listed buildings and more than 30 ancient monuments. Tucked away in between contemporary restaurants, bars and cafes are fascinating medieval churches, ancient wine vaults, and fine Georgian houses and hotels.

This two-bedroom fourth-floor apartment with water views is located in the historic building of South Western House. Formerly known as the South Western Hotel, this Grade II listed property was used by passengers travelling on the great liners including the Titanic. Also, available on the fifth floor is a two-bedroom apartment with an outlook over the city.

It’s this captivating mix of old and new that makes the Old Town a popular choice for homeowners. There’s a real sense of following in the footsteps of generations of townspeople and traders as you make your way down to the sea to watch the ships. Currently on the market in the historic waterfront district is Captains Place, a modernised three-bedroom town house within easy reach of Oxford Street and West Quay.

Nowadays, most of the commercial activity in the area takes place at West Quay shopping mall or nearby Ocean Village Marina with its restaurants, bars, cinemas, and sailing facilities. Property in Ocean Village is much sought after and this modern top floor apartment offers views towards the River Itchen and Southampton Water. By contrast, just a short walk from the Village on Bernard Street is this three-bedroom period home with high ceilings and classic features.

Amidst all the modern day conveniences, the streets of Old Town are still filled with reminders of times gone by.

Lettings Expands into West End

  • 2 October, 2014

Pearsons' ever expanding Residential Lettings Department is pleased to announce the inclusion of their West End branch.

Heading the team is Clifford Ciorra, who has worked within the group for some 30 years with over half that in residential lettings.  Now working in the village where he currently lives, he has a passion for his area - which he calls “the best locations” within Southampton.  And being an investment landlord in his own right, he’s also bringing to West End a very personal “hands on” service designed to minimalize landlord’s outgoings – whilst giving tenants a managed service second to none.

A member of the Association of Residential Lettings Agents (ARLA), and a fellow of the National Association of Estate Agents, we are confident you will find Cliff’s expertise invaluable to your lettings experience.

If you have property in the Botley – Hedge End – West End  areas Cliff is available on 023 8047 7377 or in the office at 62 High Street, West End, Southampton.

Pearsons joins the UK's number one property auctioneer

  • 25 June, 2014

Pearsons has joined national award-winning property auctioneer Auction House. Pearsons are now one of the most successful auctioneers in the area, with a total of 13 agency branches across the region.

Pearsons' Auctions Director and auctioneer Toby Wheatley said: "We are very much looking forward to working with the Auction House network and see it as a valuable business relationship that will deliver mutual advantages. The benefit of the Auction House brand is that sellers will know that they are putting their property into a nationally recognised auction. From a buyer's perspective, they will have access to a larger, more varied and comprehensive catalogue."

Toby Wheatley added: "We view this as the coming together of two powerful operators, whose combined strength should enable the businesses to expand faster together. Auction House already has more auction rooms than any other auctioneer in the country, and is entering more residential lots into its May 2014 sales than anyone else.

This is an exciting addition to Pearsons connections with the Auction House national database of buyers likely to increase the attendance of Pearsons sales and encourage yet more bidders for all lots available. It will also enable us to being an even wider range of properties, many in the popular price ranges, to an ever growing marketplace. There is certainly the demand for more lots than currently available and we invite any property type in any condition so watch this space."

Help Donna raise funds for Breast Cancer Care

  • 19 May, 2014

Donna Sevier from the Pearsons West End office completed a 20 mile Pink Ribbon Walk from Hampton Court Palace in aid of Breast Cancer Care on Saturday 17 May 2014.

She hopes to raise as much money as she can because, as she says, ‘These days nearly everyone knows someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer and this charity does so much good work to reassure and support people through their treatment’.

  • Just £2 provides a headscarf for a woman who has lost her hair during treatment
  •  £5 provides an easy-to-understand information pack for newly diagnosed patients
  • Every £100 raised pays for four calls to the Breast Cancer Care confidential helpline that gives people facing breast cancer the vital support they need at the time when they need it most.
If you would like to help Donna raise money for this very worthy cause you can donate online at www.justgiving.com/Donna-Sevier or text JADS62 followed by £2 / £5 or £10 to 70070.

Thanks very much from Donna and everyone else who is cheering her on at Pearsons!
